AMOCAFEST - OCT 27th
{aka octoberfest}

This is one of the staff, her name is Nicole. I do odd jobs for her a lot.

He doesn't work here. We just hired them to do traditional German dances like the chicken dance.

Yes, the food was delicious.

This is the art studio in the back of AMOCA. I have free access to this any time, because I volunteer so much. Its pretty cool!!

Some of the artists' work is just laying around everywhere waiting to be glazed. I found this one really pretty.

Sometimes they host events in the back room like family sculpting day for example. I usually have to do yearbook style photographing for the events.

This is what we look like when we take photos in the museum. This is the back gallery for the local artists to display their work.

Here is one of the regular artists in the back ceramics studio. He was sculpting a "Stein" for our AMOCAfest we had in October.

An example of some of the professional photography I do for the museum.
It honestly is mostly dishes which isn't too fun, but its experience!

The top picture was used in AMOCA's ad which they printed in huge posters.. I was pretty proud. (:

Blog 10: Senior Project Update

(1) What are you currently doing in your independent component?

I am currently continuing to do my volunteer work at the American Museum of Ceramic Arts. I have learned a lot of new information about how to start a show. I am starting to realize how much work I have gotten myself into...

(2) What is a recent piece of research (article, interview, or audio-visual) that have you reviewed you would say was significant in helping you understand where to go next in your senior project?  The piece of research should be something you reviewed in November.  Please explain what you learned and where are you going next because of this piece of research.

One of the pieces that I really found a deep interest with was the article called "Psychological Effects of Art on Humans". I thought that the way it explained the human mind was extremely useful in an advertisers' point of view. Not only are you targeting your audience on a very physical level through demographics research etc, but you are also more able to change their emotions from the pieces that are shown in the exhibit. It stresses a more important role on choosing the pieces wisely in order to have emotional themes throughout the entire exhibit. This will help me with choosing the pieces that I choose to exhibit, because I now have a better understanding as to what will effect which part of the brain.

{This is the photography studio that I usually work in with the girl on the right, Jill. She's the photography intern, and  I help her. The man on the left is Roady, he is the arts director of AMOCA. He's placing one of the headlining pieces for the last exhibit down for us to photograph for advertisements and the catalogue books. }

Blog 5b: Science Fair Proposal

1. What is your topic?My topic is "The Art of Curating"

2. What is the driving problem behind your experiment and the quote by an expert to support that problem? (Expert citation must be MLA format.)

“It is sad that the ADBID needs to pay for a survey to understand the attitudes and the needs of our neighborhood five years after it was established,”- Yulav BarZemer http://www.ladowntownnews.com/news/arts-district-demographics-study-shows-affluent-residents/article_72f3ad04-b739-11e1-afab-001a4bcf887a.html

3. What is your hypothesis? (Must be in If-Then form.)If the demographic of an art show were only the upper middle class, then how can we draw an even larger demographic to visit?

4. Write a paragraph summary of how you will perform the experiment.  Include the tools you plan on using.I will perform this experiment through a series of many many surveys. With the information like this at hand, I will attend many art shows and exhibitions just to understand the demographics that are outlined in LA to see if there is any variation to the type of person that it draws. Once I have my demographic information and have asked a few more questions, I will do intense research and on the field exploration to find what each demographic looks for in an art show and try to incorporate it into my art show. Also, I will create graphs and then make projections as to how you can achieve greater demographic diversity.

5. Select one of the following Project Categories for your experiment:
Behavioral/Social Science

Blog 9: Working EQ and Possible Answers

1:   The working EQ I used during my presentation was: What are the steps you must follow in order
      to curate a successful art show?

2:   I am not going to revise my EQ at this time.

3:   Possible answers could include: having a prominent theme, finding a location, advertising the show, preparation, and then opening night. (these would obviously be very vague so that I could go into the in depth process during the presentation to fill up content.)
